Product photography ranges dramatically from simple shots of products and packaging to their context, use, and glamorization. From a quick snapshot to multi-day video and product shoots. The consumer market is full of weird and wonderful things, most households have thousands of items some of which they never knew they needed, I value my heated toilet seat (which is possibly too much information), but the point is they all need to be photographed for advertising, if you don't know it exists you are not going to consider buying it.
